Mackenzie Clark, an expatriate from Australia who was once hailed as a star detective at Scotland Yard due to her intuitive skills in solving seemingly unsolvable crimes, finds herself forced back into her childhood home—Dolphin Bay—a beautiful seaside paradise but also a place she associates with some of her darkest memories. Six years ago, whenever possible, she fled this town and vowed never to return again, leaving many unresolved matters behind. Upon returning, Mackenzie still doesn't like the small town; neither do its inhabitants particularly welcome her presence. In fact, no one wants her there—not even Mackenzie herself.
